The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) and chamber-exchanges have claimed geographical markers. As of 2020, 627 geographical markers were protected in Turkey. Of these, 261 were registered by chambers and exchanges. The first 4 provinces in registration were Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Izmir, Kastamonu. Again, 236 of the 675 geographically marked product registration applications were made by chamber-exchanges. The first 4 provinces in the application were: Diyarbakır, Konya, Gaziantep and Ankara.
TOBB has prepared guidelines for
chamber-exchanges for EU registration of geographical markers
TOBB prepared the “Geographical Markers
Guide for Chambers and Commodity Exchanges,” and shared it with 81 provinces in
order to guide the chambers and exchanges in their geographical marker applications
to the European Union.
The guidelines pointed out that local and
special products are more preferred by consumers every day, noting that
geographical markers are the most valuable tools and treasures that bring gains
in national and global markets. In this way, it was emphasized that every step
taken by the chambers and exchanges is very valuable. TOBB officials, together
with the Brussels Representative Office, said they would continue to support
chambers and exchanges in registration and subsequent processes.
