Organized under the leadership of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Local Products and Geographical Indications Türkiye Research Network (YÜCİTA), and hosted by the Antalya Commodity Exchange, the “Workshop on the Sustainability of Geographical Indications in Türkiye” was held on October 22–23, 2025, at the Antalya Chamber of Commerce Meeting Hall.
The workshop addressed
FAO and TOBB geographical indication policies, the sustainability level of
geographical indication products in Türkiye, good governance, traceability, and
environmental integrity. The program included a detailed assessment of the
economic, social, and environmental sustainability dimensions of geographical
indications.
The opening speeches of
the workshop were delivered by Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin, TOBB Board Member
and Antalya Commodity Exchange President Ali Çandır, Ministry of Agriculture
and Forestry Agricultural Marketing Department Head Ahmet Turan Gürkan, FAO
Türkiye Deputy Representative Dr. Ayşegül Selışık, Turkish Patent and Trademark
Office Geographical Indications Department Head Hakan Kızıltepe, and YÜCİTA
President Prof. Dr. Yavuz Tekelioğlu.
Additionally, on the
second day of the workshop, a field visit was conducted to a geographical indication-protected
product area in Antalya; sustainable management models for geographical
indication-protected products were discussed through on-site observations and
producer interviews.
