The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) Maritime Council Meeting was held at the TOBB İstanbul Service Building with the participation of TOBB Executive Board Vice President Tamer Kıran, chaired by Maritime Council President Recep Düzgit, and attended by Council Members.
In the first part of
the meeting, opinions from the sector regarding the Draft Ship Agency
Regulation were evaluated. It was stated that changes regarding the reduction
of document fees, the removal of the Class D agency application, and the
reorganization of penalties were welcomed by sector representatives. However,
concerns were raised about the severity of agency closure penalties and the
implementation of online training.
During the meeting,
information was shared regarding the requirement to install cameras on agent
and pilot boats under police supervision at ports, as well as the transfer of
ISPS authority to the Ministry of Interior.
The meeting also
addressed the acceleration of the Mersin Main Container Port Project. It was
emphasized that the project is of great importance in terms of Türkiye’s
maritime transport capacity and its strategic position in the Eastern
Mediterranean. Opinions were shared that delays in the investment process could
negatively affect logistics competitiveness, and therefore the process should
be accelerated and facilitated.
The meeting concluded
with an assessment of the sector's priority agenda items and the presentation
of proposed solutions.
