The Memorandum of Understanding for the Organized Industry Zone to be built in Jenin by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) has been signed. “The Jenin Organized Industry Zone Memorandum of Understanding” was signed by the Science, Industry and Technology Minister Fikri Işık and the Palestinian Deputy Prime Minister and National Economy Minister Muhammed Mustafa. According to the Memorandum, the Turkey’s 281st OIZ will be built in Palestine.
A round table meeting was held with the Islamic Chamber of Commerce,
Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA) Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
Member Countries hosted by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of
Turkey (TOBB).
Following the meeting during which views in regards to the development
of Muslim countries and the liberation of Palestine were discussed, The Jenin
Organized Industry Zone Memorandum of Understanding” was signed by the Science,
Industry and Technology Minister Işık and the Palestinian Deputy Prime Minister
and National Economy Minister Mustafa.
TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “As TOBB we are prepared to
provide Palestine all the assistance we can. It is our hope that this OIZ which
we will build in Jenin will provide jobs to 5,000 Palestinians. This way, we
will transfer our experience with industrial zones, the main factor of Turkey’s
industrialization.”
TOBB Industry for Peace (TOBB-BİS) Organized Industry and Technology
Zones Inc Board Chairman Ahmet Şekeroğlu stated that it is their goal to
transfer their knowledge and experiences in regards to organized industry zones
they’ve refined in Turkey to Palestine.
Reporting that various tenders have been finalized and others are in the
process of completion in regards to the Jenin OIZ, Şekeroğlu went on to provide
additional information on the OIZ, stating that there will be ample advantages
to exporting and importing through the OIZ, during which those conducting
business would be insured by the World Bank.
