Meeting with Bursa Commodity Exchange (BTB) Members at the Bursa Meat and Fish Institute Facilities in Bursa, TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu drew attention to the importance of commodity exchanges for Turkey’s economy.
Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “Although first encountered in history here,
commodity exchanges are an obscure concept for us. The first in Aizanoi,
Kütahya, the people of this land practiced the equivalent of commodity
exchange.”
TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that without commodity exchanges,
producers and farmers would not be able to market their goods at realistic
prices, saying, “Today, the most important role of the exchange is to
differentiate between the quality of products, determining prices in accordance
with quality. This benefits production and industry. It allows consumers to
attain healthy and proper food. In this regard, we have a commodity exchange
which provides service on par with any in the world, the Bursa Commodity
Exchange. The residents of Bursa, its tradespeople, industrialists and
manufacturers can be proud of it.”
