“Our riches are not in the ground, but on it”

02.01.2013 Salihli / Manisa

TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu visited the Salihli Commodity Exchange and attended the opening of the raisin exchange hall.

TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu commended the Salihli Commodity Exchange on a beneficent endeavor and congratulated the Salihli Commodity Exchange Board of Directors and the council members.

Emphasizing that the Salihli Commodity Exchange is one of the 120 5-star chambers, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that the service provided here is on par with any chamber to be found in Europe.

“When Salihli is mentioned, grapes and cherries come to mind,” said the TOBB President and expressed that the acquisition of a trademark for the Salihli cherry is a very beneficent endeavor.

Reporting that 74 million people are added to the world’s population each year, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that agriculture and animal husbandry would gain importance. Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “Four out of the top ten products which had the highest price increase last year were agricultural and livestock goods. It used to be that agriculture and livestock farming were done for subsistence. Today, they are significant avenues of income. Our riches are not in the ground, but on it.”

- Partnership emphasis

Suggesting that businessmen form partnerships, TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu went on: “We excel in coming together in solidarity in times of need. But once we’re in the clear we all go our separate ways. This is also true in our partnerships. Why are there no centennial establishments? Two brothers earn money and a while later one says he wants to be the boss. We divide up our establishments and throw them away.

We, as a people, need to engrave the words ‘grace and beneficence in unity; anguish in dissent’ into our minds. Act according to the rights and laws of partnership; if you lose, come and talk to me. Our culture suggests partnerships as well. We must succeed in partnerships as Salihli, as Turkey. Allah has granted us an enterprising spirit.”

Salihli Commodity Exchange President Hüsnü Tuğrul thanked everyone for attending the opening and said, “You’ve honored us by attending the opening.”

Salihli Governor Ertan Peynircioğlu thanked those who contributed to the opening of the hall which would serve the farmers and traders of the county.

Afterwards, Hisarcıklıoğlu toured the hall, inspecting the various grapes and raisins on show.
