During his speech at the “Towards a Global Steering Mechanism” Plenary Conference held by B20 as a part of G20 Sessions which took place in Washington D.C., USA, TOBB and B20 Turkey Chair M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that they do not want to be attending the G20 Summit in Antalya in November with just a long list of wishes.
Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the founding of the World SME Forum,
revitalization of global growth in the long term with infrastructure
investments and the removal of obstacles to trade are among their main action
plans.
- Deputy Prime Minister Ali
Babacan
Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan stated that the G20 is the world’s
strongest platform in terms of representation, “We are greatly honored to be
chairing the G20. This is because G20 Term Chairs are elected, not rotated. A
country must be unanimously elected.
Governments, central banks and international finance organizations alone
can’t ensure growth. No matter how much you increase public spending; no matter
how expansionist the central banks’ monetary policy is, if you do not include
the private sector into the process, the expectation of sustainable growth and
employment would not be realistic.” Emphasizing the importance of B20, Babacan
reported that the inclusion of companies in the G20 agenda is one of their
priorities.
- IMF Chair Christine Lagarde
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Chair Christine Lagarde stated a
quite busy schedule has been initiated with Turkey taking over as Chair of G20,
“We have scalable goals and Deputy Prime Minister Babacan will make sure that
we are all fulfilling our responsibilities. Turkey’s leadership is strong and
honest. Atatürk said, ‘Let us not be afraid to speak the truth.’ We should keep
this in mind.”
- World Bank President Jim Yong
Kim
World Bank President Jim Yong Kim thanked Turkey for their effort in
regards to its term as chair. “G20 has adopted the World Bank’s Global
Infrastructure Fund (GIF) among its priorities. We thank you for your support
and guidance in this matter.
The World SME Forum is an exciting development; we give our word to be
actively involved within it.”
International Business Community Consultative Council President and Coca
Cola CEO Muhtar Kent emphasized the importance of cooperation between private
and public sectors.
