“The master journalist and my very dear friend Mehmet Ali Birand’s passing has deeply saddened us all. The truth of it is that Birand has left marks in all our lives. In his career nearing 50 years, Mehmet Ali Birand has expended great efforts to fulfill the people’s right to information to his last breath. His love of work and his profession has been exemplary for young journalists.

Working in many fields of the media, Mehmet Ali Birand was an experienced journalist conducting interviews in difficult and dangerous situations which have garnered great interest throughout the world. With his famous program, which in essence extended months to 32 Days, Birand should be remembered for his sensitivity to social matters, his friendship and humanism.

Mehmet Ali Birand is an important page in the history of the Turkish press. His warm smile will remain with us despite the years. May heaven be his abode!

On behalf of the Turkish business world, I pray for the grace of Allah on him and offer my condolences to his family, loved ones and the press community as well as our nation.”
