The award ceremony for the Bio Start-Up Program, initiated this year by TEPAV, was held in San Francisco, USA.
Young entrepreneurs attending the BIO Entrepreneurship Camp and active
in the field of biotechnology received their awards at the opening of the
Turkey Stand at the BIO Convention 2016 where 17 companies and research centers
from Turkey.
Congratulating
the award winners, TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu spoke about the
Innovation² Program started by TOBB in order to propagate the spread of new
technology.
Hisarcıklıoğlu
said, “We’ve grasped the importance of innovation for prosperity as a nation.
Now we must transition from speaking about the benefits of innovation to
innovating. We’ve started the Innovation² Program in order to speed up the
steps taken towards innovation.”
Stating
that the Turkey Delegation to the BIO Convention held annually in the USA has
been organized by TOBB Biotechnology Sector Council (TOBB-BIO) and TEPAV,
Hisarcıklıoğlu said that their aim is to show Turkey’s ability in the
biotechnology field, enable companies’ and researchers’ global to improve their
partnerships and to open the way for foreign investment which will transfer
technology.
Hisarcıklıoğlu
stated that young bio-entrepreneurs selected for the BIO Start-Up Program have
the opportunity to train with the prominent researchers of their field as well
as promoting their products on a global platform.
Hisarcıklıoğlu
said that the young entrepreneurs who competed are the pride of Turkey in
biotechnology in many fields such as healthcare, energy, plastics, textiles,
and many others.
Drawing
attention to the technological transformation the world is undergoing,
Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that global economy is being reshaped by the effects of
new technologies and that Turkey can adapt rapidly to this new process to close
its income disparity with richer countries.
Emphasizing
that it is increasing the share of advanced technology in production and
exports is the most crucial component of Turkey’s sustainable development and
growth strategy, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “That is why we’ve brought together companies
utilizing biotechnology from a myriad of sectors in the TOBB Biotechnology
Sector Council.”
The
TOBB President stressed the importance of the council as a policy dialogue
program for the expansion and development biotechnology’s application fields in
Turkey.
- Turkey stand opened
Representing
Turkey at the largest biotechnology organization in the world, BIO Convention
2016
held
in San Francisco with the attendances of 29,000 people from 65 countries, was a
delegation of 110 people organized by TOBB Biotechnology Sector Council and
TEPAV.
Speaking
at the opening of the Turkey Stand, TEPAV Director Güven Sak stated that
Turkey’s attendance at the BIO Convention for the last two years has been organized
around the Innovation² Program and that BIO Convention is one of the best
avenues for promotion for Turkey.
Grand
National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey (TBMM) Health, Family and Social
Affairs Commission Deputy Chair Celil Göçer emphasized that the importance
Turkey puts on biotechnology shows its dedication to draw in high technology
investments to the country.
Turkey’s
progress in the field of biotechnology were presented to foreign investors at
BIO Convention 2016.
Of
special interest were Health Industries Direction Committee agenda and
itinerary and the Industrial Property Rights Law being discussed at TBMM.
Receiving
TEPAV’s Successful Bio-Entrepreneur Awards were Diploid Biotech Products and RF
Sense Radio Frequency Sensor Enterprise.
