TOBB has pioneered the foray of Turkish companies into working with European Nuclear Research Organization (CERN) Project; out of 4 Turkish firms, 3 have the won the public tenders they are participating in, the business volume of Turkish companies working with CERN reaching 400,000 EUR.
Three Turkish
companies participating in the tenders have won four tenders working through
the Industrial Liaison Office, established under TOBB in order to provide
coordination for participating in tender processes of industrial and industrial
firms of CERN member countries with the goal of increasing Turkish companies’
share of the market following Turkey’s membership to CERN in May 2015.
Dora Machinery, based
in Ankara, having set foot in CERN with the first tender they’ve taken on, has
become a recognized brand at CERN with 1 tender and 6 separate special orders
fulfilled. Currently, two firms from Istanbul and Kayseri are producing
prototypes for the tenders they’ve won. With these tenders, Turkish firms'
business volume at CERN has reached 400.000 Euros.

Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, stressed that Turkish companies were informed thoroughly
in activities attended by CERN experts in a short period of one year and that they
hoped more companies would take part in tenders.
Hisarcıklıoğlu stated
CERN’s annual purchases of add up to approximately 600mn USD and that Turkey
opened new opportunities for industrialists by becoming a CERN partner. “Turkey
is putting money here. The money collected from 40 countries is channeled here.
An opportunity has been opened up to us. I say to the industrialists, doing
business with CERN brings great prestige. There is a great opportunity here.”

120 firms applied for the contracts
With the 19 events
organized in 12 cities in 2016, the TOBB CERN Industrial Liaison Office, which
promoted Accelerating Technologies at CERN, job, internship and career
opportunities, announced CERN tenders to more than 6,000 companies in its industry
database network and followers.
With these
announcements, CERN requested proposals from 27 of the 120 companies that
applied for tenders. CERN awarded 4 of 16 tenders to 3 Turkish companies, worth
between 50,000 and 200,000 Swiss Francs in terms of project size
classification. In addition, the evaluation process for the 12 proposals
submitted is still ongoing.
