TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, evaluating the registration of the Malatya apricot as a geographical marker in the European Union (EU), said, “This is actually the registration of the brand. Today, the apricot is 1 lira, tomorrow 2 liras. This will actually come back to Malatya as wealth. Therefore, I congratulate the Chair of Malatya Trade and Industry Chamber as well as Malatya’s opinion leaders.”
Hisarcıklıoğlu
said they will accept the registration certificate in Ankara next week.
Customs
and Trade Minister Tüfenkci said, “We need to market Malatya apricot with a
certificate of registration, both in the world and in Europe, in a much
different way, and we need to have an action plan.”
Recalling
that Turkey has already received this registration from the EU for “Antep
baklava / Gaziantep baklava as an agricultural product as well as the “Aydın
incir” as agricultural product, Tüfenkci stated now that Malatya apricot it is
registered with the EU, it will be protected from unfair competition at least
in Europe.
