the reform package, prepared last year as a part of the Improving Investment Environment Coordination Board (YOIKK), providing changes in many areas such as company organization, building permits, foreign trade processes, fulfilment and bankruptcy law has enabled Turkey to brake records.
Turkey
has jumped 17 places in the rankings of the World Bank's Ease of Doing Business
Index (Doing Business) from its place as 60th last year, settling on
43rd rank.
Turkey
is also among the top 10 countries with the highest number of reforms in 2018.
Turkey is the only country in Europe to place among list of “top reformer”
countries. Among the G20 countries, it was one of the three countries that
managed to rank with China and India.
The
Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges Turkey President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu
stated that they are happy to have achieved results via the reforms carried out
as a part of YOİKK’s package, “I would like to thank President, Mr. Recep
Tayyip Erdogan for his support, taking the reform efforts under his wing,
Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank for coordinating with YOİKK
coordination, the then-Deputy Prime Minister Recep Akdağ for pioneering the
work of the reform package as well as all relevant ministries and all the NGOs
who contributed.”
Commenting
on the results, the TOBB President noted that results could be a strong
reference point for foreign investors, “Turkey being one of the top 10
reformist countries in an index which we have placed in the 60s and 70s for many
years, rising to 43rd is greatly pleasing. There is significant
improvement in the fields of company organization, building permits, credit
supply, rights of creditors and foreign trade. These results, achieved in
current economic conditions, is an indication that Turkey is making the reforms
needed to boost investment and employment.”
Rifat
Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that Turkey should not be satisfied with this result, “We
have shown the entire world how strongly we are committed to reforms. As TOBB,
we are proud of conducting coordination of these reforms in the private sector.
I would like to point out once again that we are the supporters of all reforms
that will pave the way for our entrepreneurs and provide an environment in
which they can grow healthily in the long term.”
