Kayseri Erciyes University, Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu was awarded an honorary doctorate.
Erciyes
University Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çalış said that the University senate has
awarded Hisarcıklıoğlu a Doctorate in International Trade and Management for
their work on Turkish economy, regional development and entrepreneurship and
their successful management.
Speaking
at the ceremony, TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu, attended hundreds of meetings
every year, but the happiest I was to be among the students at the university,
he said.
Stating
that Erciyes University has written a separate success story, Hisarcıklıoğlu
said, “Today you are among the 11 research universities in Turkey. With 39
research centers, from nanotechnology to biochemistry, you're doing research in
all the areas the modern era needs. And a nice one, and I’m not going to do it
you have come up with ideas: 'university on campus, not university in the
field'. Thus, you are with the Kayseri industrialist and the merchants. In
addition, you have a great share in the development of not only our students,
but also the region and Kayseri economy.”
Stating
that this is only befitting of Kayseri, a center of trade with a 6,000-year
history, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “I follow your work closely towards becoming a
university focused on university-industry cooperation and entrepreneurship. Of
course, it is a great honor to receive an honorary doctorate from such a
dynamic university in the field of international trade and management. I'd like
to thank the senate and the board of directors for honoring me in this way.”
Hisarcıklıoğlu
talked about the importance of entrepreneurship, stressing that the way to prosper
is through entrepreneurship and that the power of nations is measured by their entrepreneurial
power, not by their cannons and rifles.
Hisarcıklıoğlu
noted that the 20 richest countries in the world are the 20 most
entrepreneurial countries; that countries are now importing entrepreneurs.
Hisarcıklıoğlu
stressed that entrepreneurship is the solution to unemployment; that an entrepreneur
employs 10 people, emphasizing the need to increase the number of entrepreneurs.
