The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu called on the Council Members to be role models by telling success stories to young girls at the Information Seminar of the Women Entrepreneurs Council.
Hisarcıklıoğlu
gave a speech at the seminar held at TOBB Twin Towers in Ankara, saying that
information seminars are a very good opportunity to get to know the community
and TOBB. Hisarcıklıoğlu noted that they established the Women Entrepreneurs Council
of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey in 2007, “The aim of
our Councils is to increase the number of female entrepreneurs in 81 provinces.
Of all entrepreneurs in Turkey, the proportion of women increased from 4% in
2007 to 9% in 2018. I'm not going to be modest. If entrepreneurship in Turkey
has started to be talked about so much, the biggest role in this is TOBB’s, Women
and Young entrepreneur councils’. About 7,000 volunteer women entrepreneurs
mobilized for this purpose in coordination with our Chambers and Exchanges in
their provinces. The first task of the Councils is to bring successful women entrepreneurs
to the forefront as role models. Making other women say, 'If he did it, I can
do it too.’”
- Women should be in all aspects of
life
Stating
that it is necessary to oppose social gender norms, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that
the view that 'women's place is the home,' is unacceptable. Women should be in
all areas of life, TOBB president said, “Just like men, women have much to
contribute at home and at work. The angle of view needs to change, the language
used needs to change. Remember, love begins in the language; If the language
changes, the world changes. Come now, instead of 'man of this business', which
we often use in our lives, let's say 'right person', ‘promise’ instead of 'man's
word'. There's no gender in hard work and success. You take in criticism and
continue your work with determination. Because as TOBB, we care very much about
our women and young entrepreneurs. Moreover, we expect a lot from you on behalf
of our country. We need you to show your vision and guidance so that new
entrepreneurs come forward in Turkey, and we see great importance and benefit
in recognizing this community you are in while doing this.”
