The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu the Economic Development Foundation‘s (İKV) 58th General Assembly conducted via video conference. Turkey-EU relations were discussed at the meeting attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Faruk Kaymakçı.
TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu
said here that the Economic Development Foundation is the window of the business
world to the European Union, noting, “İKV is the business world’s concrete
support of Turkey's European Union relations. The history of the Economic
Development Foundation is essentially parallel to the history of Turkey's
relations with the European Union."
Hisarcıklıoğlu emphasized that the
Economic Development Foundation is a European Union school, library and
teaching for the business world, and said that İKV also informed all segments
of society about the European Union. TOBB President said, “The whole world is
going through a difficult period. I’ve said this many times, we're having the
most troubled period since the Second World War. We're facing a global problem.
However, we do not see the global solidarity needed. The trend of protectionism
is rising all over the world. Uncertainty remains in the world economy. At the
same time, Turkey-EU relations are going through a difficult process. However, we should not be hopeless. Dialogue
between Turkey and EU institutions is underway. Yes, it is inadequate, but
there is dialogue, and this dialogue needs to be able to provide results.”
