The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu attended the TOBB Turkey Glassware Sector Council Meeting.
Hisarcıklıoğlu said that the glassware sector,
with its knowledge and courageous entrepreneurs, has reached an important point
in the world and has a large share in production, employment and exports.
Hisarcıklıoğlu pointed out that the sector is
one of the few sectors that serve to positively affect the current deficit, “Our
country is gaining net foreign currency. Total exports of the sector were $4.6 billion
last year. Its imports are about $880 million. So you are providing a foreign
trade surplus of 3.7 billion Dollars.”
Hisarcıklıoğlu, emphasizing that the sector has
completed the process of maturation and becoming accepted throughout the world,
“The next period, with a design-oriented understanding, should be the period to
play to the world leadership. We have established our Sector Council in order
to shed light on the work of our sector in the coming period. Under the
umbrella of our Sector Council, we will voice our demands and problems with a
strong voice, forward them to the relevant authorities and follow them up.”
Stating that, TOBB, in this troubled period,
has taken on the task of bridging business and the government, Hisarcıklıoğlu
said, “We quickly conveyed the problems in the field to our government. In
March, when the pandemic began, we compiled requests from our Sector Councils
and chambers/exchanges. We presented the 70-item proposal set we created to our
President. Most of them have come to life, and they continue to pass. Finally,
the incentive system was passed to the county-based system, which was one of
the demands we have expressed on every platform for years. Of course, there are
new problems every day. I also tell the relevant Ministers individually about
their problems and our solution proposals.”
Hisarcıklıoğlu extended his wishes for success
to Council President Murat Kolbaşı and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Selman
Yar, elected unanimously in June.
