The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu attended the program organized for the 40th anniversary of the Chamber of Maritime Commerce of Istanbul and Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean and Black Sea Regions (IMEAK).
Speaking at the event,
TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu said that shipping is the most strategic sector
in global trade where competition is intense.
Hisarcıklıoğlu, stating
that it is not easy to both stand and fly the Turkish flag in all seas, said:
“All our sailors who fight hard in the global arena deserve special
congratulations. Turkish shipping has recently gained a great momentum with the
right policies implemented by our government. It has become one of the star
sectors of our country. Maritime transport revived. Our merchant fleet has
grown. The number of our shipyards increased. Our shipbuilding industry has
developed. Producing all kinds of ships. We managed to become one of the few
countries in the world. We have become a well-known brand in the world. Of
course, we have a long way to go. Because maritime is also our national asset,
our national wealth. We must maintain the vitality, cooperation and sincerity
of our sector. We must not allow the increasing trade volume to shift to
foreign transport companies.”
Stating that the IMEAK
Chamber of Shipping plays an important role in the development of maritime
affairs in Turkey, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “I am proud of the institutional
structure that our Chamber of Maritime Commerce has continuously strengthened
the experience and reputation it has brought in 40 years, the projects it has
implemented and the works it has brought to our country's maritime.”
- “We are now proudly
flying the Turkish Flag in all the seas of the world”
Tamer Kıran, Chairman
of the Board of Directors of IMEAK Chamber of Shipping, drew attention to the
success achieved by Turkish shipping and said: “When we look at the important
milestones of the 40 years that have passed with the establishment of our
Chamber, we see that important decisions have been instrumental in paving the
way for Turkish maritime. In this process, we see that Turkish shipping has
started to go out of the Black Sea and Mediterranean region and crossed the
ocean, and our flag has started to fly all over the world. At this point, we
are proudly flying the Turkish Flag in all the seas of the world. While we were
carrying out coastal transportation with tows yesterday, today we are going on
voyages all over the world with our experienced sea employees.”
Emphasizing that the
sector builds ships for many countries of the world with 84 shipyards, Kıran
said, “We design our national defense ships and manufacture them with great
success. We are proud of the services provided by our ports, agencies, maritime
tourism activities, our maritime sector as a whole, on par with international
quality.”
