The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu participated in the TOBB Türkiye Creative Industries Council Let’s Talk Orange Event “Life Ahead Panel” hosted by the Konya Chamber of Commerce, with a special focus on ‘graphic design and publishing.’
In his speech at the
opening of the panel, TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu said that they aim to bring
together the important names of the sector and youth with these events.
Stating that creative
industries offer new opportunities to stand out in global competition with low
investment costs, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “I find it very important and right that
the government supports this potential. Especially in the TV series and cinema
sectors, the projects led and supported by the government have been very
successful. The exports of the movie and TV series sector exceeded 1 billion
dollars. As Türkiye, we have invented and found a new source of income. No
matter which geography of the world you go to, you encounter TV series produced
in Türkiye.”
Hisarcıklıoğlu stated
that nearly 500 million people in 150 countries watch Turkish TV series, and
emphasized that those who watch the series come to Türkiye for vacation and
that this sector has a serious contribution to tourism.
Explaining that the
added value produced should be increased by directing government support to all
16 sub-sectors of the creative industry such as advertising and graphics,
Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “These sectors diversify our economy with the contribution
obtained from intangible assets. In the global economy, the importance of
elements such as intellectual property, copyright and patents that do not
pollute the environment and enable the production of value-added products is
increasing day by day. The total economic size of creative elements worldwide
reaches 2 trillion dollars. We are a drop of water in the ocean here. There is
a great horizon in this field, make good use of it. We have to move our business
to digital.”
Pointing out that the
digital world is the area that makes the most money, Hisarcıklıoğlu went on, “Creative
industries are at the center of this business. You are the ones who will move
companies to mobile. In 2022, 73 percent of digital media advertisements were
made on mobile devices. Another area where we are strong as Türkiye is mobile
games. Creative industries will trigger this transformation. It is very
important that government institutions and the private sector work in harmony
to increase the volume of the creative industry. Established for this purpose,
the Creative Industries Council of Türkiye is the highest umbrella organization
that brings together public and private sector representatives to ensure the
sector's ability to be represented. Our council also ensured that many problems
were solved by voicing the rights and laws of the sector in every environment.”
