The Europe and Asia Summit of the World Chambers Federation (WCF) will be held in İstanbul on October 14-16, hosted by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB). Nearly 700 business people from over 40 countries are expected to attend the summit, where the WCF General Council meeting and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Board of Directors meeting will also be held. Within the scope of the summit, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat, Minister of Environment and Urbanization Murat Kurum and Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek are expected to meet with business leaders.
WCF and TOBB President
Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that they are proud to host such a summit this year after
being elected as the President of the World Federation of Chambers in last
year’s election and said: “Both the global economy and our regional geography
are going through a critical process. As the business world, we are trying to
manage geopolitical risks while adapting to the new generation of commercial
competition. Because regulations on climate change on the one hand and
technological change on the other are bringing us into a new global competitive
environment that we have not been used to before. In this context, we have set
the main theme of the summit as ‘collaborative approach for climate change’.
There will soon be B20 and G20 Summits in Brazil. In November, the COP29 summit
will be held in Baku. I see the timing of this summit as very important.
İstanbul has always been one of the capitals of the global economy. With this
summit, we will carry this mission of İstanbul to a more important point.”
TOBB President
Hisarcıklıoğlu emphasized the importance of the event, telling entrepreneurs to
“be ready to connect with chamber executives and business delegations at the
international level for important networking opportunities.”
- What will the summit entail?
At the World Federation
of Chambers’ Europe and Asia Summit, chambers representing the business world
around the world will finalize their views on climate change ahead of the B20
Summit in Rio on October 24 and the COP29 summit in Baku on November 11. The
meeting will discuss the roadmap towards net zero emissions, climate
technologies and innovation, and financing climate change. In addition, the
first summit of the Women’s Network, which became operational within the World
Federation of Chambers, will be held.
Notable panel topics at
the event in İstanbul are: “Enhancing Global Collaboration to Accelerate the
Transition to Net Zero”, “The Role of Chambers in Driving Global Economic
Transformation and Change”, “Using Technology for Sustainable Development and
Circular Economy” and “Improving Climate Finance and Decarbonizing Supply
Chains”.
On the other hand, the
WCF Women’s Council Meeting with the theme of “Women in Chamber
Representation”, which will examine the challenges and opportunities women face
in their leadership roles in chambers, will be one of the meetings that will
make an impact.
Social events will also
be held to promote Türkiye within the scope of the summit.
