The meeting of the Turkish Forestry Products Council was held via video conference under the chairmanship of Oğuzhan Ata Sadıkoğlu, Member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Chambers and Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), and Sabri Avci, Council Deputy Chairman.
During the meeting, the measures taken to
address the Coronavirus outbreak were consulted, while discussing the impact of
the situation on the Forestry Products sector as well as additional measures to
be taken. TOBB Board Member Oğuzhan Ata Sadıkoğlu, the COVID-19 process
affecting all parts of the country from the beginning of the difficulties and
demands experienced as TOBB gathered with great care; TOBB President M. Rifat
Hisarcıklıoğlu has been working nonstop to eliminate the problems experienced
by council members.
At the meeting, Council Member and
Chairman of the Association of MDF and ChipBoard Industrialists Haluk Yıldız
put forth that Furniture and Forestry products sectors cannot be considered apart
from each other, and that the forestry products sector should be considered as
subject force majeure. Haluk Yıldız, also noted in this period of narrowing of
the domestic market to increase exports until the beginning of 2019, to restart
the transport support will contribute significantly to exports.
One of the issues raised in the meeting was
the rapid implementation of the buffer zone procedure at Kapıkule Border Gate at
other customs gates in order to support increasing exports, which will relieve
export outputs pressures.
The meeting also emphasized the importance
of providing flexibility in bringing export costs to Turkey from countries
where the banking system does not work well enough.
Council members have jointly said that
medium and large-scale firms should benefit adequately from the increased
KGF-backed financing opportunities.
