The President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu attended the hazelnut harvest festival organized in the sample garden established in Yomra İkisu within the scope of the Project for Increasing Yield and Quality in Hazelnuts.

In his speech here, TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “We are holding this ceremony today to show the world an example of how a sample hazelnut garden can be. I would like to thank everyone who celebrated the world hazelnut week, especially in this context.”

Eyyüp Ergan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Trabzon Commodity Exchange, said: “We aim to create awareness for these old gardens and turn all our old gardens into exemplary gardens, to talk about 1.5 million tons instead of 750,000 tons in Türkiye, and to generate an income of 5 billion dollars instead of 2.5 billion dollars. This is the purpose of this hazelnut week.”

Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç emphasized the economic input of hazelnut while stating that it is an important event both for the opening of the season and for creating awareness in order to increase production more.

At the event, Cemil Çiçek, former Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and Chairman of the Board of Directors of TOBBUYUM, TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, Trabzon Governor Aziz Yıldırım, Yomra District Governor Oğuzhan Ocak, Trabzon Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç, Yomra Mayor Mustafa Bıyık and Trabzon Commodity Exchange Chairman Eyyüp Ergan entered the hazelnut garden and harvested hazelnuts.
